Senator Working with FEMA, State and Local Officials for Disaster Relief
PLYMOUTH, PA—U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today toured the community around Coal Street in Plymouth with local, state and federal officials to survey damage caused by recent flash flooding.
“The destruction I saw today was shocking,” said Senator Casey. “The residents of the tight knit community I met with today need help to repair, rebuild and return normalcy to their lives. I will continue to work with state and federal officials to make sure the communities around Plymouth receive the resources they need to recover from this disaster.”
Senator Casey met with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region III Director of Recovery Jack Schuback, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) Recovery and Mitigation Bureau Director John Forr, Plymouth Borough Mayor Dorothy Petrosky and Borough Supervisor Joe Mazur to discuss ways to direct assistance to the community.
FEMA, PEMA, PennDot, the Small Business Administration and the Department of Environmental Protection are in the process of conducting joint Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs) to determine the extent of the damage sustained by Plymouth Borough, Jackson Township and other adjacent communities in Luzerne County as a result of flash flooding last Sunday.
