Washington, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today released the following statement on the United Nations Human Rights Council Vote on Sri Lanka Reconciliation:

“I welcome today’s vote on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council.  For several years, I have been calling for an international, independent mechanism to investigate allegations of war crimes during the Sri Lankan conflict. I also remain concerned about recent violations of human rights and religious freedom in that country.  In passing the UNHRC resolution today, the international community confirmed my conviction that much more work remains to be done.  I commend the State Department for their leadership in this effort and urge my colleagues to support S. Res. 348, a bipartisan resolution that addresses these issues.”
