Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement after Philadelphia Police Officer Sergeant Robert Wilson III posthumously received the Medal of Valor:

“Today, our nation, the state of Pennsylvania and the city of Philadelphia pause to honor the heroism of Sergeant Robert Wilson III as he posthumously receives the Medal of Valor for giving his life to protect innocent civilians. As Sergeant Wilson stopped into a store to buy a gift to reward his son for making good grades in school and for his birthday, he was confronted by two armed robbers. Sergeant Wilson, an eight-year veteran of the police force, bravely confronted the assailants and gave his life when a firefight broke out to save those in the store. To paraphrase something President Lincoln once said, Sergeant Wilson gave the last full measure of devotion to the city he loved and the people he served.”
