Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), member of the National Security Working Group and former Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released a statement following the passing of former Israeli President Shimon Peres:

“Shimon Peres, a Founding Father of the State of Israel, was the consummate public servant, leader and fighter for the people of Israel. In a world too often driven by conflict, Shimon Peres constantly challenged us to move towards peace. I had the honor to meet with Shimon Peres twice as part of a congressional delegation and then again for a one-on-one meeting in 2013, which remains a highlight of my Senate tenure; his love for his country and commitment to the bilateral relationship between the United States and Israel was evident. Peres was a voice for peace, even when the odds were against him. We lost a true servant-leader today, and we must count ourselves as blessed to have been on this earth during his lifetime. My prayers are with his family and with the people of Israel.”
