Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and Bob Casey lauded the nomination of David J. Hickton to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.  Hickton was nominated today by President Obama.

“David Hickton has strong credentials and a proven record of integrity,” Senator Specter said. “He is highly respected within the legal community and I think he will serve Pennsylvania well in this important position.”

“David Hickton has extensive experience in both criminal and civil law: he’s handled many big cases,” said Senator Casey.  “He has the experience, integrity and judgment to serve the people of Western Pennsylvania and the country with distinction.”

Hickton’s nomination will now be submitted for consideration to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Senator Specter sits.   If confirmed by the Committee and the full Senate, Hickton will serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the office which oversees federal criminal and civil cases in Western Pennsylvania.

Hickton is a founding member of the law firm Burns, White & Hickton.  He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America in several categories for many years.  In 2007, Mr. Hickton received a Special Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) recognizing his leadership as co-chair of the PBA Task Force on the Pennsylvania Judicial System.  Since 1998, he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Duquesne University School of Law.  

Hickton is currently the President of the Pittsburgh Public Theater. He was appointed by the President of the United States to serve on the President's Advisory Committee on the Arts of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts from 1999 to 2001. He is active in various charitable, civic and community activities, especially those which benefit children. Hickton has a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh Law School.
