WASHINGTON, DC—U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced that the City of Harrisburg will receive $2,206,487 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to address lead paint hazards in low and moderate income households.

“This money will help give children in Harrisburg a home free from the dangers of lead paint,” said Senator Casey. “I am pleased that the Department of Housing and Urban Development recognizes the importance of assisting low and moderate income households eliminate the serious dangers of lead paint.”

The City of Harrisburg will partner with Pinnacle Health, Tri County Housing Development Corp, Harrisburg Redevelopment Authority, Community Action Commission, YWCA of Greater Harrisburg, Capital Area Headstart and Harrisburg Housing Authority to evaluate households for lead hazards. A priority will be given to dwellings with children known to have elevated blood lead levels. The City will conduct outreach and education for 1,260 people and provide training to 27 individuals.
