Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he successfully worked with U.S. Representative Conor Lamb (D-PA-17) to secure an $18.69 million grant for the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) under the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)’s Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program. ACAA will use this funding to construct a cargo processing facility of approximately 75,000 square-feet and an adjacent surface parking lot to expand air cargo operations at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). The funding will help meet increasing demand for transatlantic cargo capacity.

“This BUILD Grant will not only allow the Airport to create more jobs and stimulate economic growth in Southwestern Pennsylvania, but will position the region as a cargo hub in the future," said Senator Casey. “These much-needed funds will be used to increase the Airport’s cargo capacity and provide a path for continued cargo growth. I was proud to advocate on behalf of ACAA in their efforts to secure this grant and will continue to make transportation and economic development in Pennsylvania top priorities.”

The BUILD Grants program provides dedicated, discretionary funding for road, rail, transit and port projects that have a significant local or regional impact. Among other efforts, including personal outreach to U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, Casey worked to arrange a delegation meeting with DOT staff to discuss the importance of the ACAA project.
