Washington, D.C. - U.S.Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released a statement following reports of the first case in the United States of bacteria resistant to all antibiotics:

“I’m concerned by reports that a patient in Pennsylvania has contracted a dangerous bacterial infection that is resistant to all antibiotics. I’ve supported legislation and participated in hearings on this issue and believe that antibiotic resistant bacteria present an urgent public health problem that we must focus on intensively. In the coming days I expect to speak with health officials to get a full briefing on the case in Pennsylvania and the work underway to protect all Americans.”
