Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on the fifth anniversary of the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act:

“I am proud to have cast a vote for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act five years ago. This legislation is an important tool in the fight against wage discrimination based on race, gender, age, national origin, religion or disability.  However, we still have more work to do to ensure that women performing the same work as men are paid the same wages. This is not only a matter of fairness; it has implications for the broader economy. In Pennsylvania and across the country, many children and families depend on women’s salaries, and we cannot allow pay inequity to continue. I will continue to work with Republicans and Democrats to end the gender pay gap as quickly as possible.”
