WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the below statement following news that Senator George McGovern has passed away:
"Today we lost a dedicated public servant who served his country with honor for decades from his service in World War II through his service in the Senate and at the United Nations. George McGovern was a voice for the powerless who fought to end hunger at home and around the world, I had the honor to work with him on these issues when I came to the Senate. He never hesitated to remind us of the real issues we should be fighting for: "Pay attention to the hungry" he would tell us "Pay attention to the poor... We are our brother’s keeper." Our prayers go out to his three surviving daughters, Ann, Susan and Mary, his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren."
