Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement regarding the latest tax plan put forth by Senate Republicans:

“After my initial review of the “plan” and what has been reported publically, I can tell you that each version of the congressional Republican tax scheme gets worse for Pennsylvania and our families. By going further than the House of Representatives and fully ending the deductions for state and local taxes, the latest version, released by Senate Republicans, is a direct attack on over 1.5 million Pennsylvania households who claim this deduction, meanwhile it contains massive tax giveaways to the wealthiest and biggest corporations.

Under this scheme, vital deductions for Pennsylvania families are eliminated, while companies who shipped jobs and intellectual property overseas get a huge tax break. It’s no wonder that Congress’s official scorekeeper, the Joint Committee on Taxation has found that under the House Republican version of this scheme, in 2019 almost 30% of Americans making between $40,000 and $50,000 a year will see a tax increase or a tax cut of less than $9 a month.

Congressional Republicans must end this obsession with tax giveaways to the wealthy and big corporations and work in a bipartisan way to cut taxes for the middle class and small businesses in order to grow wages and create jobs.”
