WASHINGTON, DC- Following the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the United States Supreme Court, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement:

"Judge Sonia Sotomayor has a long and distinguished career on the federal bench since President George H.W. Bush appointed her to the District Court through her service on the Court of Appeals.  Her experience also includes five years spent as a criminal prosecutor in New York City.  Judge Sotomayor certainly has a compelling life story and would bring a unique perspective to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Confirmations of U.S. Supreme Court nominees are one of the most important and enduring decisions made by the U.S. Senate. Prior to the Senate vote on her confirmation, I will consider Judge Sotomayor's academic credentials, legal experience, judicial temperament, character and judicial philosophy."
