WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement after his meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and ahead of his attendance of tonight’s state dinner honoring the Prime Minister:

“I was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Singh yesterday and am honored to attend the state dinner tonight.

“We discussed the economy as well as national security issues related to Pakistan and the nuclear question in Iran.  I value our important relationship with India that is based not only on counter-terrorism and security issues, but trade and economic concerns.

“Pennsylvania and the United States have a vibrant Indian-American community which provides important leadership in many fields including health, education, science and industry.”

Senator Casey visited India in May 2008 on a trip that also included stops in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
