WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on today’s Senate vote to extend middle-income tax cuts:

“I would have preferred that these tax cuts be extended for earnings up to $1 million but I believe voting for this bill was the right thing to do to prevent a tax increase of about $2200 on Pennsylvania working families. This bill also extends tax relief to 97% of small businesses and therefore will provide them with a measure of certainty that will help sustain job creation across the Commonwealth.  There is much work left to be done this year to protect middle-class families and reduce the deficit. Therefore, it is imperative that Republicans and Democrats work together in the best interests of the people of Pennsylvania and the United States. I have supported a trillion dollars in spending cuts and more spending cuts are needed.  At the same time, we can’t afford to further add to the debt by extending the tax cuts for the wealthiest few.”
