After SEPTA Had Challenges Receiving Funding in Prior Rounds Casey Wrote Letter, Weighed in Personally With Transportation Secretary Foxx / Funds Will Go to Protect SEPTA from Future Storms

Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that SEPTA has been awarded a total of $86,758,000 in grants to make repairs to infrastructure that was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. After SEPTA struggled to get repair money from the Department of Transportation, Casey wrote a letter to DOT pushing for the funds and personally raised the issue during a meeting with Secretary Foxx. The funds will work to prevent future damage from extreme weather.

“These funds will play a vital role in helping SEPTA rebuild from the damage done by Hurricane Sandy and create a stronger foundation to protect against future storms,” Senator Casey said. “Natural disasters can happen to any community. It’s important that the federal government stand ready to help communities rebuild from natural disasters. I spoke personally with Secretary Foxx about the damage done to SEPTA infrastructure during Hurricane Sandy and appreciate his willingness to look closely at this issue.”
