Funds will create an estimated 214 jobs at two area wind farms

WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) applauded the award of $17.8 million to two Southwestern Pennsylvania wind farms. The funding is available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

“I am pleased to see another example of Recovery Act funds helping the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania,” said Senator Casey. “By investing in these two area wind farms, we are putting Pennsylvanians back to work, promoting next generation industries and looking towards an environmentally sustainable future.”

One of the Southwestern Pennsylvania wind projects receiving funding is Gamesa Wind USA at the Chestnut Flats Wind Farm in Cambria and Blair counties. Gamesa will be receiving $7.8 million to install 19 two-megawatt wind turbines at the Chestnut Flats Wind Farm. The project is expected to create 85 jobs.

Also receiving funding is Iberdrola Renewables' South Chestnut wind project in Fayette County. Iberdrola has been awarded $10 million to install 23 two-megawatt turbines. The project is expected to create 129 jobs.

The funds are available through ARRA funded Department of Energy’s Green Energy Works! wind grant program. The Green Energy Works! program aims to increase energy efficiency to reduce energy costs, reduce reliance on imported energy, improve the reliability of electricity and fuel supply and delivery of energy services and reduce the impacts of energy production and use on the environment.
