WASHINGTON, DC- Following passage today of legislation to fill the $8 billion shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), released the following statement:

“The Senate today took a necessary step to fill the shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund in order to continue work on infrastructure projects around the country and to keep workers on the job.  Since the first warning signs appeared earlier this year, I urged my colleagues to act quickly to address the decreased revenue in the Highway Trust Fund.  According to the Federal Highway Administration, the revenue shortfall could lead to the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs.

“The pressing need for more infrastructure and highway funding has been ignored for years.  In the long-term, we need to take an honest look at our infrastructure needs and develop a plan to make these investments.”
