Casey Urged Company to Expand in PA – New Manufacturing Facility to Create Hundreds of New Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced that Aquion Energy will receive a $10 million loan guarantee to fund its expansion in Westmoreland County, a move Senator Casey supported to create hundreds of jobs in the region.

“Aquion is a Pennsylvania success story and emblematic of the hard work and innovation that define our workforce,” said Senator Casey. “By expanding in Westmoreland County, Aquion will create hundreds of jobs and contribute to economic growth in the region.”

Aquion, an advanced battery manufacturer, had been looking at sites around the country to expand. Senator Casey urged the company’s CEO to choose southwestern Pennsylvania.

The guaranteed loan announced today, available through the USDA’s Rural Development program, will be used to finance large equipment purchases and modifications to the facility that will become the company’s manufacturing hub. At full capacity, the facility is expected to create about 500 jobs.

Aquion was created in 2007 using research and development funds from Carnegie Mellon University.
