Federal funding will promote and support entrepreneurship and small businesses

WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Arlen Specter today announced committee approval of federal funding for projects in Southeastern Pennsylvania.  The projects are contained in the Fiscal Year 2011 Financial Services Appropriations Bill.

“This money is great news for Pennsylvania and I am grateful that members of the committee approved this funding,” said Senator Casey.  “This funding should help spur innovation, promote economic development and help create jobs in Southeastern Pennsylvania.”

“These initiatives will help to strengthen Pennsylvania’s small businesses and promote entrepreneurship,” Senator Specter said.  “This funding comes at a critical time during our economic recovery, and I applaud my colleagues for supporting these projects.”

Regional projects in the bill include:

•$100,000 for The Enterprise Center in Philadelphia County for its Minority Business Development Initiative (MBDI).  The MBDI will work to help minority small businesses create jobs in Pennsylvania by providing training and technical assistance.

•$50,000 for Urban League of Philadelphia in Philadelphia County for their Entrepreneurship Center, which will work to help small businesses grow by providing management skills training.
