WASHINGTON, DC—Following his meeting today with General David Petraeus, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released the following statement:

“We discussed the challenges we face in Afghanistan, including the threat posed by Ammonium Nitrate in IEDs, the drawdown of troops from Iraq and our important security relationships across the CENTCOM area of responsibility.

“I am pleased that the Senate Armed Services Committee approved his nomination and I anticipate his speedy approval by the full Senate.”
