Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) released the following statements on news that Pope Francis will visit Philadelphia next year for the World Meeting of Families.

Senator Casey said: "I welcome Pope Francis' decision to visit Philadelphia in 2015 for the World Meeting of Families. Hosting a guest like Pope Francis is a great honor for the city, the region and our entire Commonwealth. Philadelphia truly is one of America's great cities. I am confident Pope Francis will get to experience Philadelphia and enjoy his visit."

Senator Toomey said: “I am very grateful that the Holy Father, Pope Francis, has chosen to visit Philadelphia next fall.  Pope Francis sets an example for all with his humble nature, compassion for the poor and less fortunate, and his modest but joyful lifestyle.  I join with Philadelphia’s faith community in welcoming him to the City of Brotherly Love.”
