WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today released the following statement after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will continue to lead the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) radioactive waste clean-up project in Parks Township:

"While today's announcement is a step toward resuming clean-up at the Armstrong County nuclear site, the Army Corps should immediately take actions to expedite the contract process so that clean-up can restart right away. I met with Assistant Secretary Jo-Ellen Darcy last month and urged her to do whatever it takes to restart the clean-up process quickly, and I will continue to press the Army Corps and other responsible federal agencies to begin this process right away."
