Senator Casey Played Lead Role in Program’s Oversight When Budget Shortfall Realized- Called for IG Investigation, Held Hearing
Washington DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the HELP Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety, released to following statement in response to news that the Department of Labor will end the Job Corps enrollment freeze. Senator Casey played a leading role in providing oversight of the program when a budget shortfall was revealed. Senator Casey called for an Inspector General’s investigation into the programs’ funding shortfall and held a Senate hearing on the issue.
“This is good news for students in Pennsylvania and around the country as they seek skills needed to successfully enter the workforce. It is disturbing that financial mismanagement led to a three-month enrollment freeze that prevented students from attending Job Corps and led to job loss at local Job Corps centers.
There are still many unresolved issues to ensure that financial management is improved and the highly successful Job Corps program can serve our communities effectively and efficiently. I will continue to monitor the implementation of reforms as well as the upcoming Inspector General report.”
